Pomegranate Podcast is a podcast about the experiences of those living in the Middle East and the diaspora. We chose a pomegranate as the main theme because they are a popular fruit in the Middle East and because it symbolises the rich history and culture of the region. The lines inside the pomegranate match the borders of the Sykes-Picot agreement which artificially divided the region into its current nation-states. Made in Illustrator for digital and printing purposes. Text made in Procreate.
In 2019 escalations between Turkey and Syria risked further destabilisation and a humanitarian crisis. As part of the organising committee in London, I was tasked with spreading awareness for the march in London and the campaign to oppose the further conflict (named RiseUp4Rojava). I designed the previous and following illustrations through Procreate and Photoshop for digital and print purposes. The illustrations below depicts the flag of the Northern Syrian region amongst a somewhat cold and empty background. I wanted the illustration to be emotional to express the seriousness of the situation, yet hopeful.
The printed versions were successful based on how many people kept them (rather than throw them away) and the protest was the largest Kurdish-led event since 1991.
The following pieces are my illustrations and art.
